BUSINESS IS QUIETBANK OF NEW ZEALAND LOWER. o Business was quiet on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning, and only three Bales were recorded at the first call. In the banking section New Zealands •were easier, and after a sale 5d down, at £2 9/4, the market stood between £2 9/3 and £2 9/6. Reserves were unaltered with business at £6 10/, and subsequent quotations from £6 9/ to £6 11/. Insurances were in better demand, but at lower levels. South British were quoted between £4 13/6 and £4 15/. Coal shares were firm and unchanged. Colonial Sugars were on offer at £41, and buyers were on hand at £1 lower. Waihis continued very firm, with buyers at £2 1/ and holders asking 6d more. Government stocks were in good demand at late rates.

Commercials weakened a fraction, and sellers dropped back a penny, to 16/5. Pukemiro Collieries were offered 6d lower, at £1 7/6. Claude Neons were again on offer, and buyers came in at £2 7/6 for New Zealands and £2 5/ for Sydney. Waihis had fresh business at £2 1/, after which the market stood between £2 0/9 and £2 1/3. Tie main feature of this morning's call was an exceptionally heavy turnover of Government stock, four parcels of 19371&40, totalling £4000, changing hands. The price paid was on a par with late rates, and after business the market closed firm % per cent on either side of the sales price of £102 10/. Among banks, New Zealand and Reserve were steady, the former having business and further sellers at £2 9/6, and the latter being quoted between £6 10/ end £6 11/. Goldsbroughs were again quoted weakly, the market standing at buyers 28/ and sellers 28/°. A firmer tone marked Australian miscellaneous issues, Tobacco quotations gaining strength, with buyers and sellers finishing higher at £1 17/9 and £1 18/2 respectively. The only business recorded, however, was Electrolytic Zinc ordinary, for which the market closed firm, with further buyers .at the sales price of £1 1/9. Mining was inactive, King Solomon remaining steady, with, dealings at 3/11 and further sellers Id above, Eawang Tin was still weak. Waihi, with unsupported buyers at £2 0/4, were as strong as ever.
