STEAMER ASHORE.

Japanese Rescue British Crew. NO HOPE FOR VESSEL. TOKYO, February 24. The British cargo steamer Catherine Radcliffc (sf>oo tons) was driven ashore at Cape Daito, south of the mouth of the Tone River, before dawn yesterday, in a storm. .She was carrying lumber from Port Laiidoro to Osaka.

A naval airman reports that fishing boats rescued all the members of the crew of the Radcliffc. The radio operator remained at his post to the last dispatching S.O.S. messages until the arrival of two salvage boats.

The latter are standing by, but apparently there is no hope of saving the vessel. She has a list of 30 degrees, and high waves have been covering the lumber in every direction.

The American cargo vessel Elizabeth Kellogg, is also ashore in the Yokosuka naval zone.
