WEEK-END PICNICS.

A.S.R.S. AT NGARTTAWAHIA. A total of 47 carriages was necessary to transport the 3500 people who attended the annual picnic of the Auckland branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, which was held at the regatta grounds, Ngaruawahia, yesterday. The weather during the morning and afternoon was ideal, although rain fell towards evening. Sports results are as follows :—

The Auckland Municipal Officers' Social Club held their annual picnic at Motuihi on Saturday, when about 150 people attended. An interesting sports programme added to the enjoyment of the outing. SCOTT SUNDAY SCHOOL. The annual picnic of the Scott Presbyterian Sunday School, One Tree Hill, was held on Saturday. A large bus-load of adults and children spent the day at Parnell Park, arrangements to go to Titirangi being changed owing to uncertain weather being forecasted. An enjoyable day was occupied with swimming, games and races. Prizes were given to winners and runners-up for each Sunday School class competing in the races and a special first prize to a junior department 50 vards competition, the winner of this being Lawrence Craig. The fathers' race was won by Mr. Powles. the mothers' by Mrs Heron, singles ladies' by Miss Joyce Sutherland, girls' Bible class by Miss Edna Kew, and Frank Harrington and Mervvn Harland tied in the visiting Doys' race. The secretary. Mr. P. H. Beanrose, was also handicapper.

DRIVERS' UNION. Over 1000 people attended the annual picnic of the Auckland Drivers' Union at Pine Island yesterday. The harbour trip was made in the steamer Kestrel. BIRKDALE SCHOOL. The annual picnic and sports gathering of the Birkdale school, held on Saturday, in Tui Park, was largely attended. At teatime the chairman, Mr. T. M. Shepherd, on behalf of the residents, made a presentation to Mr. B. \V. Clay, in recognition of his service as secretary of the school committee fur fourteen consecutive years. Both Mr. Shepherd and the headmaster, Mr. D. S. B. squire, spoke in appreciative terms of the work done by .ur. Clay. Mrs. Clay was presented with a bouquet of Mowers by a girl pupil.

THE "OLD CONTEMPTIBLES." There were about 150 people at the annual picnic of the Old Coutemptib.es Association which was held yesterday at the City Mission camp at Onerua turough the courtesy of the Rev. Jasper Calder. The outing was considered to be the most successful ever held by the association. Kesults of the sports events are as follows: — Relay race : Old Conteuiptibles beat Tamaki Yacht Club. Girls' race, umler 14 : Eraser 1, Seaton 2. Boys' race, under 14: Perkins 1, Smithers 2. Members' race: Pirrie 1, Smithers 2. The annual picnic of employees of the Farmers' Freezing Company, Limited, was held at Motuibi ou Saturday. In spite of a few light showers the day was much enjoyed by more than GOO picnickers.
