CAULFIELD RACES.

DEAD-HEAT IN FUTURITY.

SYNOGOGUE AND HEEOS. A VICTORY FOR CLOSING TIME. MELBOURNE, February 24. The autumn meeting of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club was continued at Caulfield yesterday, when the weather fine and the track in good order.

The New Zealand jockey K. Voitre rode two very fine races. In the St. Clair Handicap he took the unfancied Eastern Knight to the front in the run home, and just managed to hold oft' Ganymead in an exciting finish. His handling of Count Ito, winner of the second division of the Hawksßurn Handicap, was equally meritorious. Both, horses are owned by Mr. J. P. Arthur.

The New Zealand-bred colt Synagogue, having his first race in Australia, battled out the finish of the Caulfield Futurity i Stakes in fine style to run a dead-heat 1 with H,eros. Winooka was third. Synagogue was. purchased a couple of months ago by Mr. J. A. Phillips, of Melbourne, owner of Gaine Carrington, and is hailed as a first-class colt. ' Another New Zealand-bred winner wa6 Capris, who scored in the Stanley Plate. Although by no means first away, Capris soon went to the front, and won very comfortably. La Trobe finished brilliantly to take the Woodcliffe Handicap from Whittingham, who had a big lead entering the straight. The "Sunday Sun's" representative at Caulfield says that the New Zealand rider K. Voitre impressed critics by the patient manner in which he handled his mounts. He is assured of plenty of riding when he settles in Melbourne. Commenting on the win of Capris in the Stanley Plate, the representative say 6 the manner in which she spreadeagled the field forced a well-known judge to remark: "She is the best sprinting filly bar Arachne."
