"THEATRICAL WAR."
Fresh Outbreak of London Dispute. C. B. COCHRAN CONTRACTS. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 22. The "theatrical war" has broken out afresh following the Actors' Equity Association instructing its members not to sign contracts offered for C. B. Cochran's forthcoming new production, "Mesmer," a play by Beverley Nichols.
"I do not recognise Equity's right to dictate my contracts," says Mr. Cochran. "I have two other plays ready for production. If I cannot get artists on my own contract I shall simply cease producing."
Equity's secretary, Mr. A. M. Wall, declares that Mr. Cochran is defying the agreed standard of contracts for London theatres.
