A strange position has arisen in connection with the British sculling championship which the holder, Ted Phelps, suggests bequeathing to his brother Eric. The latter, who is coaching in Switzerland, has written objecting to the suggestion that he should take the title without a race. As a race between the two brothers would, in any event, be unsatisfactory, Eric says that if Ted retires he will row any other challenger for the title. in the meanwhile Bert Barry has challenged Ted Phelps, who is busy in his father's boat-building shops and cannot race before the autumn.
