FLOODS AT DARGAVILLE.
MINOR SMPS ON RAILWAY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. After a few days of fine weather the heaviest fall of rain this year set in at noon yesterday, and continued for some hours, with the result that there was much flooding late in the evening. Several feet of water was over the roads in the Kirikopuni and Tangiteroria districts, and the notorious Taylor's Flat was again under water.
The main road to Whangarei was blocked to-day, but the Houto route is still open.
Up-lino settlements experienced a heavy fall. Although there is a good deal of water about, all roads have remained open for traffic. Waipoua Forest experienced the full blast of the rain, where the heaviest fall since 1918, a total of three inches, fell in 24 hours. The Waipoua Stream rose till it lapped the decking of the bridge in the centre of the forest.
The KaUiu railway is open as usual, but the Tangowahine-Kirikopuni section is closed owing to a couplc of small slips. There is also water in the low-lying portions near Kirikopuni. JS"o inconvenience has been caused to passengers, as a connection to the railway at Kirikopuni has been made by motor from and to Dargaville. It is expected that the railway will be open again by Tuesday.
