OBITUARY.
MR. JAMES CLOTHIER. An early resident of Canterbury, Mr. Jamas Clothier, died at Hamilton on February 13, aged 85 years. Born in Somerset, England, lie came to New Zealand with his parents, who landed at Lyttelton in ISSO, when he was nine months old. The family took up land in Canterbury, and for many yearn Mr. J. Clothier was farming at Kaiapoi. Ho had lived retired at Hamilton for the last 25 years, where he was a member of Whitiora Bowling Club. He is survived by Mrs. Clothier and the following children: —Mrs. A. Tait, of Auckland ; Misses M. and K. Clothier and Mr. S. Clothier, of Hamilton; and Mr. J. Clothier, of Matamata.
MR. J. I. WHITEHOUSE.
Mr. Joseph lebister Whitehouse, of Cedar Road, Epsom, who died on February 13, aged 66 years, was a son of an Albert land settler, Mr. Samuel Whitehouse. Hβ was born and educated at Matakohe. Later he went with his parents to Turoa, and was in the employ of Bagnall Brothers, timber millers. Afterwards he was farming at Matakohe, and upon retiring 15 years ago came to Auckland to live. Mr. Whitehouse was a prominent breeder of Jersey cattle, acting on many occasions as a judge at shows. He was also a maker of violins, having secured awards at Auckland, and also Christchurch exhibitions, for his instruments. Mr. Whitehouse belonged to the Epsom Bowling Club, and for many years was a teacher in Epsom Baptist Sunday School. He is survived by Mrs. Whitehouse, two ■sons and two daughters. The eldest son was killed in the Great War.
REV. GEORGE W. DENT.
(By TelegraDh.—Press Association.) CHEISTCHUKCH, Thursday. The death has occurred of the Rev. George William Dent, aged 62. He was well known as a priest of the Church of England in many parts of New Zealand, and particularly as curate of St. Luke's Church, Christchureh. Born in London, Mr. Dent was a son of the founder of the publishing house of J. M. Dent and Sons. Among the parishes in which Mr. Dent served were Devonport, Paparoa, Wairoa, Eltham, Brooklyn, Greytown and Palmerston North. For some time he had been chaplain at St. George's Hospital, Christchureh.
