TROTTING.

AUCKLAND MEETING. THE OPENING DAY. CARD FOR TO-MORROW. NEW SYSTEM OF BETTING. The February meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club will open at Alexandra Park to-morrow, and additional interest will be created by the alteration in the system of betting. What used formerly to be known as the win machine will pay two dividends —75 per cent and 25 per cent where there are five or more starters. The place machine will pay three dividends, in the proportion of 33 1-3 per cent to each placed horse where there are eight or more starters, and 50 per cent to the'first and second horse only when the field is of five, six or seven. The machine that indicates the investments for the 75 per cent end_2S per cent will be clearly marked Win Machine" and the other machine ' Pace The soiling windows will be clearly labelled "win" and "place," and, being placed alternatively side by side, in* vestore will be able to purchase either a win or place ticket, or both, at one visit to the machine. The fields are good, and should fine weather prevail an excellent afternoon's sport should be provided. The Opening Event. The meeting will open with the Trial Handicap, for unhoppled trotters, in which a field of nine are engaged. Auto Patch has been working in great style at Epsom, but he is very unreliable, at the barrier. If he goes away he will be hard to beat. Bingen Sun, Great Gold and Meadow King have no form to their credit, but Meadow King promises to develop fair class with experience. Polly Pan must be respected and Great Admiral has won at his only start, on that ocasion registering 3.29, and, as he will start off 3.46. he has very bright prospects. Young Kodney has not raced for some time, but is a fairly solid trotter. Mute disappointed at his last appearance, but it was not his true form, and he should do better. Wnikato Prince is standing the front horses up a good handicap, but the class is not over strong and lie has a chance. The best backed may be GREAT ADMIRAL MUTE POLLY PAN. The Improvers. A large field of seventeen improving pacers are engaged in the Waiheke Handicap, and a good contest should be provided. Ariel Bell is sure to be in the firing line for a long way and may effect a surprise. Cherrill and Charteris Bay have plenty of pace, but may need experience. Kia Kaha has been off the scene for a long time, but has previously displayed plenty of speed in his races. Muriel Bond should play a prominent part, while Proletarian would only have to repeat his form in finishing second in the Great Northern Derby to take all sorts of beating. Home Brew cannot be entirely discarded and Rare Rey is sure to carry solid support. The favourite division may comprise PROLETARIAN MURIEL BOND RARE REY. The Otahuhu Handicap. Next comes the principal attraction of the day, the Otahuhu Handicap, and eight have accepted. Great Parrish showed brilliant form on the first day of the Christmas meeting, but fell on the B econd day and had to be thrown out of work. However, if he parades fit and well he cannot be left out of calculations. Raydus has arrived from the south in good order, but his best form has been registered over shorter distances than two miles. Willie Derby and Auto Machine have chances, while Kewpie's Guy has been pleasing in her work. Worthy Light will probably start a warm first choice, and his recent form merits this position. Impromptu is sure to register a good performance, but Jewel Pointer does not appeal. Most support may be accorded WORTHY LIGHT IMPROMPTU KEWPIE'S GUY. The Papakura Handicap. The Papakura Handicap has drawn a field of ten improving pacers. na Worthy has been racing fairly consistently of late and must be respected, while Plain Pearl has some good performances to her credit in the south. Ringtrue will most likely bo the favourite, his racing efforts in the past having been impressive. le Mahanga is capable, but does not often elect to do his best. Manco has been racing disappointingly, and GumdigKer will have to improve. Jackie Thorpe displayed good form at the Christmas fixture, but appears to have a hard task to give away 60yds to some of those on the front. Nelson de Oro may be the best of the others. The issue appears to lie between RINGTRUE PLAIN PEARL EDNA WORTHY. Mount Albert Handicap. \ hard problem is set backers in the Mount Albert Handicap, in which eleven improving pacers arc engaged. Kayor. d'Or possesses a fine turn of speed, and would only have to begin correctly to hold bright prospects. Aircraft will be ensured plenty of support after his impressive wm at the December meeting, while the bracket Lucky Love and Le Chenault form a strong combination. Silver Watch £ a promising young pacer, while jMsnei, l eter Junior and Tryment cannot be discarded. Kewpie's King has been showing signs of lameness. A tvio that appeal arc RAYON D'OR SILVER WATCH LU LE CHENAULT Bracket The February Handicap. A small field of seven trotters are drawn to contest the February Handicap. Autumn Lou has been showing signs of lameness, but Mountain Sun should race prominently. Te Kahu is one of the most promising trotters in the Auckland province and he should reach the highest class. Win Huon has not shown any form for a long time, but Manna's Son is working well and looks certain to at least fill a place. Rustle won particularly well at his last appearance, and although a good way back is likely to be handy at the finish. The favourites maybe TE KAHU - . MANNA'S SON RUSTLE. Moss Davis Handicap. The Moss Davis Handicap has drawn a good field of smart sprinters. Bingen Chief can go fast, but is a slow beginner. Francis Lincoln and Homeward are speedy, and both have chances, while Jackie Thorpe will command attention. The bracketed pair. Chancellor and Travis, are likely to be the elect of backers, but the first-named may not start. The best of the others may be Nimbus, Realty and Kewpie s Guy. The favourites may be CHANCELLOR — TRAVIS Bracket FRANCIS LTNCOT/NT JACKIE THORPE. The Railway Handicap. The day's snort will conclude with the Railway Handicap, and it is a hard race. Fisher 'is speedy, but does not always race generously. King's Warrior, with whom Rod Hope is coupled, is infusing plenty of dash into his training tasks, and the bracket will m-obably be the favourite. Kewpie's Bond is sure to be one of the hardest to beat, while Social Pest should run a sound race. Luminate would only have to leave the mark correctly to figure in the finish, but Plain Pearl may find the handicap a little beyond her. Good money may be invested upon the chances of KING'S WARRIORRED HOPE Bracket • KEWPIE'S BOND
