MOUNT EDEN. CLUB.
50YDS PROVINCIAL TITLE. TO-MORROW NIGHT'S HANDICAPS. The principal events at the Mount Eden Amateur Swimming Club's carnival, at Bellevue Road to-morrow night, will be the 50yds Auckland championship and the 50yds first-class handicap. As the holder of the former, R. B. Frankham, and N. Crump, S. Lazarus, B. O'Connor, A. Raper and A. C. Bagnall, will be contesting the title, a great race should result. It was hoped that the Otago champion, W. J. Jarvis, holder of the New Zealand record (23 l-ss), would take part in the first-class handicap, but he has strained himself while training, and may not be allowed to' race. However, he is certain to give an exhibition swim. Supporting events include 50yds open free-style, 66 2-3 yds ladies', and 150 yds breaststroke. Spectacular diving should be witnessed, as the championship of the Mount Eden Club will be decided, and a display will be given by local and visiting divers. CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Wellington Swimming Centre will be represented at the New Zealand championship meeting in Auckland next Saturday, Monday and Wednesday by A. Somervell, K. Spry and Miss Peggy Price. Somervell has been nominated for the 100 yds men's contest, Spry for the 220 yds breaststroke, in which he was runner-up last season, and Miss Price for the ladles' diving championship, of which she Is the holder. Although the rights were originally offered to a B station, arrangements have now been made for the broadcast to be handled t>y IYA, owing to the national character of the meeting. ONEHTJNGA HARBOUR RACE. .On Saturday the Onebuhga Amateur Swimming Club held its second annual harbour race for the Denison Cup, starting from the Mangere shore and finishing at the Onehunga beach, a distance of approximately one mile.
