WOMEN TOURISTS.
EASY WIN OVER OTAGO. TWO CENTURIES REGISTERED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Sunday. Brilliant weather and a fast wicket at Carisbrook were the conditions for the match between the English women's touring cricket team and Otago yesterday. The attendance was surprisingly good, numbering about 3000, and the spectators must have been ii. ■ rcssed by the bright standard of play revealed by the visiting team, which had no difliculty in romping home against Otago. In fact, the English women, so far as stroke play is concerned, compared not unfavourably with the standard in the men's senior competition, but it must be remembered that Otago's bowling was very weak. England won the toss and quickly commenced to provide a batting treat for the spectators. The opening pair were M. Mac Lagan and E. Snowball, the vicecaptain, and they soon had complete command of Otago's attack. The bowlers at first appeared nervous and took some time to find a length, but at no period were the batsmen in trouble. Both displayed an extensive repertoire of shots, Snowball being particularly attractive. The second century was passed before a separation was effected, Snowball being eventually dismissed by a fine catch by Bewlcy, off Hollis, when her total was 108. Snowball gave a difficult chance when in the nineties. Mac Lagan was smartly run out with her total at 114. M. Hide hit out merrily in scoring 52 not out, and D. M. Turner also gave a good display in notching 20 not out. The visitors declared with 308.0n the board for four wickets. M. Hollis took the bowling honours, securing three for 79. Otago's batting was feeble compared with that of the visitors, and in the first innings the side was all out for 48. M. Bishop being top-scorer with 12. M. Hide took five wickets for 5, and Mac Lagan four for 29. Otago did better in its second strike, and at stumps had 72 on for the loss of seven wickets. Bishop was again topscorer with a nicely compiled 32, and J. Little also batted well for 20 not out. M. S. Burleston, with three for 16, was the most successful trundler. L.H.A. V. COLLEGE.
