Already there is a greener ting:; everywhere, and with a continuance of the present weather, the moisture an<l the warmth in the ground will, no doubt, produce a quick second growth. The peat fires are still burning in tin Monovnle swamp district over a wide area. They are now of a very deepseated nature and will go on burning for weeks. The recent rains, however, have considerably eased the situation of fanners directly concerned. THUNDER IN DARGAVILI/E. HEAVY DOWNPOUR OF RAIN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLK, this day. A heavy downpour of rain occurred last evening accompanied by a heavy thunder storm. The fall amounted to 30 point*, making a total for four days of 1.30 inches. Heavy* rain fell during the week-end, which is a thrice welcome change from the recent l"njj drought. The Oroua River is flooded from heavy rains, which have fallen in the ranges this week.
