RAIN AT CAMBRIDGE.
DROUGHT NOW BROKEN. GOOD FALLS OVER WEEK-END. (From Our Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, Sunday. The drought lias now boon definitely broken in tills district, two solid downpours occurring on Saturday, following a number of lighter showers. On Saturday evening there was a tropical downpour and 1.02 in was recorded |in the gauge for the 24 hours this morning. Already there is a greener ting:; everywhere, and with a continuance of the present weather, the moisture an<l the warmth in the ground will, no doubt, produce a quick second growth. The peat fires are still burning in tin Monovnle swamp district over a wide area. They are now of a very deepseated nature and will go on burning for weeks. The recent rains, however, have considerably eased the situation of fanners directly concerned. THUNDER IN DARGAVILI/E. HEAVY DOWNPOUR OF RAIN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLK, this day. A heavy downpour of rain occurred last evening accompanied by a heavy thunder storm. The fall amounted to 30 point*, making a total for four days of 1.30 inches. GREYMOUTH HEAT WAVE. BRIEF STORMS IN RANGES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, Sunday. The heat wave continues, the only variation being brief storms along the main range. The rain is not extending to the coastline, but the rivers are diseploured. HEAVY RAIN AT FEILDING. CHANGE FROM DRY SPELL. (By Tolegraph.—Press Association.) FEILDING. this day. Heavy* rain fell during the week-end, which is a thrice welcome change from the recent l"njj drought. The Oroua River is flooded from heavy rains, which have fallen in the ranges this week.
