TRAIL OF BLOOD.

BURGLARY AT WAIHI. INTRUDER INJURED BY GLASS « YEI/LOW BACK» NOVELS , TAKEN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. A heavy trail 6f blood marked the tracks for a considerable distance of a burglar who broke into the premises of Mr. A. 11. Clarke, bookseller, printer and stationer, in Seddon Street, at an early hour yesterday morning. Entrance was effected through a window in a back room, the glass being smashed, and the burglar, in making his entrance, evidently sustained a very serious wound, a thick pool of blood on the floor beneath the window forming dramatic evidence of what had occurred. Here the unwelcome visitor, who was wearing, shoes with rubber soles, had evidently stood, and subsequently walked about in the blood, his tracks leading to the front portion of the shop, the door of which was locked. After securing some two dozen "yellow back" novels, he retraced his steps through the shop and made his exit through the broken window. The blood tracks were easily followed down Haszard Street, and past the borough chambers, where they crossed over near the Methodist Church. The burglar had then proceeded across Seddon Street, up Haszard Street West, and past the fire station, where the tracks were eventually lost. Mr. Clarke states that no attempt was made to break open his till, which contained about £1 in cash. Some of the "yellow backs" left behind were well smeared with blood. No other articles were taken. Judging by the tracks and the distance travelled, the burglar must have lost a considerable amount of blood, and it is thought he may have collapsed after reaching a hiding place. Sergeant Blake was occupied to-day in making investigations.
