RELIEF PROMISED
DEPUTATION TCI MR. FORBES. SURVEY OF THE DAMAGE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, Friday. Mr. F. Lye, M.P., returned to Cambridge to-day from Wellington, whe-o he and Mr. L. R. W. Reed, representing Te Hoe district settlers, urged upon the Prime Minister that some measures oi relief be given to settlers in fire-swept districts.
Mr. Lye said a clear statement ami estimate of the damage done in To Hoe. Monavale and other districts had been presented to the Prime Minister and to officers of the Agricultural Department. The deputation had asked that responsible officers of the Department be sent to the Waikato and that they prepare a comprehensive estimate of the damage done.
Mr. Lye said the Prime Minister was very sympathetic, and promised that immediate action would be -taken.
