Mr. John K. Austen sailed by the Monterey on his way to South Africa. ,|jlr. if. of Dunedin. managing director of the D;I.C., left for the South by the Limited last night.

Dr. T. G. Gray, Inspector-General of Mental Hospitals, and Dr. J. Bussell, of Wellington, are at the Station Hotel.

Mr. M. Mailing, manager of the Hamilton branch of the Bank of Australasia, has been appointed manager at Christchurch.

Mr. Iv. T. Jr. Haslett, headmaster of Knox Grammar Junior School, Sydney, and Mrs. Haslett left for Sydney by the Mouowai last evening.

'Mr. W. T. Ikin, of Wellington, New Zealand manager of the Australian Mutual Provident. Society, returned South last night after a brief business visit to Auckland.

Mr. F. J. Ansell, Auckland manager for J. Cf Williamson Picture Corporation (New Zealand), Ltd.. leaves tonight 011 his annual vacation, and will be absent for some weeks.

Mounted Constable P. Wilks has been transferred to Papakura from Onehunga, where he has been stationed for seven years. He is to replace Constable A. White, who has gone to Whitianga. Dr. W. Williams, president of the University of Missouri, who visited New Zealand last year, lias decided to relinquish the presidency of his university, but will resume his duties as Dean of the University School of Journalism, which he founded in 1908.

Mr. Chunhow H. Pao, the ConsulGeneral for China in New Zealand, is to leave Wellington 011 February 8. !Ir. Fong Wang, who is coming from Johannesburg to succeed Mr. Pao, is not due till some time later. In the meantime the duties of Consul-General will be carried out by Mr. Yue Jackson. Mr. 11. C. Trim has been appointed to succeed Mr. Owen Pritchard as programme organiser for radio station 2YA. Mr. Trim has been connected with radio work since 192(5, his first experience being with the ")0-watt station of tlie original Broadcasting Company, anil lie was on the stall' of IYA, Auckland, from. 1930 until May last, when he returned to Wellington.
