YACHTING.

CHARTING THE COASTLINE. WORK TO START NEXT YEAR. Over a number of years there have been complaints of the inadequate charting of the New Zealand coastline. The position is recognised and admitted by the New Zealand Government, which for a considerable time has been in communication with the British Government on the subject. There is now every possibility of a resurvey being undertaken in 1936.

The correcting and completing of the survey will involve a considerable amount of work. The coastal charts now in use have been compiled mostly from surveys made between 1819 and 1855 by H.M.S. Acheron and H.M.S. Pandora, and from 1003 to 190."j by 11.M.5. Penguin. Outside of casual surveys and various changes consequent upon the locating of some new rock or reef. New Zealand's official charts have remained untouched for about istyears.
