NEWSPAPER STOLEN.
GARDENER FINED. Charged with stealing a newspaper, the property of Percy Jones, Claude Henry Cooke, a gardener, aged GG, appeared before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. He pleaded guilty and was fined 20/, in default seven days. Inspector G. B. Edwards said accused was seen to take a newspaper from the verandah of a house in Ponsonby Road. At first he denied that he had taken it, But later he admitted the offence. Complaints had been received that papers had been stolen in the district, but it was not alleged that accused was responsible for former thefts. The value of the paper was little, but it was a great annoyance to people to find that their papers lad been stolen.
"It is a most annoying form of sneak tlaeving," remarked the magistrate.
