RECORDS BY RADIO.

COPYRIGHT FEES DEMAND

LONDON, January 2,

The gramophone companies' demand for payment of copyright fees on all records broadcast after January 1 may have far-reaching effects on radio programmes, says the '"News-Chronicle." Hitherto the British Broadcasting Corporation has paid nothing, contending that tho broadcasting of records increased the sales of them.

The companies' reply is that the corporation is enabled, by the free use of records, to stage costless concerts by artists who would themselves demand enormous broadcasting fees. Negotiations are proceeding. Five shillings has been mentioned as the amount which should bo paid for each record broadcast. The Broadcasting Corporation's two main stations sometimes broadcast as many as 00 records a day.
