OBITUARY.

REV. SYDNEY E. HILL. PRESBYTERIAN MINISTER. The death occurred yesterday of the Rev. Sydney Ellis Hill, Presbyterian minister of Ellerslie, at The Manse. , Born at sea on October 28, 1575,- the son of Captain James Hill, master mariner of Arbroath, Scotland, Mr. Hill had a varied career. Beginning in business in Glasgow as a young man, lie was soon attracted by mission work, and worked for several years in the slums of that city. He came out to New Zealand in 1903, being granted the charge of •Woodville. After two years there he went to the Theological Hall, Dunedin, where lie studied for three years.

His next charge was Taradale, after which ho went to Lincoln in 1010. Seven years later he -moved to Tapanui, where he was in charge for ten years. Coining to his last charge, Ellerslie, in 1927, he was an untiring worker during his seven years' ministry there. Throughout hits life he was an energetic social welfare worker. He was closely associated with the Auckland Presbytery, being convener of the visitation committee and a member of the public questions committee. In Ellerslie ho was chairman of the Welfare League, and did much to help his parishioners. lie is survived by his wife, a daughter, Miss J. I. Hill, of Waihou, and three eons, Messrs. S. J. B. Hill, of Invercargill, T. G. C. Hill and J. E. Hill, of Auckland. A presbytery funeral will be held at the Ellerslie Presbyterian Church tomorrow, at 2.30 p.m.

MRS. ANN BAY. The death has occurred at "iSTormanhurst," Rocky Kook, of Mrs. Ann Bay, who was one of the pioneers of Kawliia. She was born at Ruapuke, a daughter of Captain Swan, of Papanni, and was married in ISBS to the late Mr. Karl A. Bay, who had been stationed at Kawliia as dispenser to the Armed Constabulary. Later she lived at Onehunga. She leaves six sons —Mr. Karl Bay (Port Albert), Mr. Otto Bay (Collingwood), Mr. Fred Bay (Waerenga)j Mr. George Bay (Kaikohe), Mr, Max Bay (Whangarei), and Mr. Louis Bay (Otohutui), and one daughter, Mrs. J. Faulkner (Port Albert). The funeral took place at
