TOLL ACCOUNTS.
WEEKLY RENDERING. EXPERIMENT TO BE MADE. In response to a suggestion from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, the Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. G. McNamnra, has written to the. chamber that he is willing to institute an experiment of issuing weekly toll accounts in the four main centres. "The suggestion, I may say, is not new," says Mr. McNamara in his letter. "It has been considered on other occasions, and has been declined on account of the heavy additional cost that the step would involve. However, the Department is prepared to meet individual business firms who desire to receive weekly accounts, provided linns making use of the facility will reimburse the Department to the extent of paying £1 per annum additional for their first trunk line, plus 5/ per annum for each succeeding trunk line. "This is tho special annual charge paid by those subscribers who receive their toll accounts daily. The charge does not cover the cost of rendering toll accounts daily, of course, nor will it quite cover tho cost of rendering aceoiinta weekly; but the Department, in its desire to meet the business community in every possible way, is prepared to experiment at tho four main centres in issuing weekly accounts. Accordingly any business firm at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or Dunedin desiring to receive its toll accounts weekly may do so forthwith by making application to tho Chief Postmaster."
