HEART OF A RABBIT.

Demonstration by London

Doctor.

IN ICE FOR THREE DAYS. (United P.A .—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, January 7. The "News-Chronicle" says that a rabbit's heart, which lived again after being packed in ice for three days, was demonstrated by Dr. Winifred Cullis, M - ho explained that the rabbit's heart in its reactions is similar to the human organ. It retains its energy after death and can be stimulated by oxygen to beat for- eight or nine hours.

Dr. Cullis slowly thawed the heart out and fed it with artificial blood containing salts, which arc in human blood, causing it to beat, tlie movements being recorded on moving smoked paper. Subsequently, the heart was fed with adrenalin, digitalis and calcium, causing it to beat wildly until the recorder almost left the paper. Then potassium almost stopped the beating until it was revived. The demonstration was undertaken for an instructional film to educate children in hygiene.
