COMMISSIONER'S REPLY. "NO CAUSE FOR UNEASINESS." (By. Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, tnu day. A denial that there was any cause for uneasiness about the equipment of the New Zealand Police Puree was made to-day by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. 0. Wolilmann, in reply to a telegram sent by Mr. H. Holland, M.P. for Christchurch North, asking for information on the subject. Tills was the result of a discussion by the Canterbury Justices of the Peace Association following recent remarks by Mr. Justice llerdinan.
Mr. Wolilmann refers particularly to the transport facilities available'for the police, and states that in Christchurch the expense of maintaining additional Departmental cars would not be warranted.
Mr. Wolilmann adds: "I can assure you there is absolutely no cause for uneasiness as far as the equipment of the New Zealand Police Force is concerned. Mr. Justice Ilcrdmau's remarks
.it Auckland apparently had reference 1o motor transport facilities for police in that city, where, 1 may state, improvements to police motor transport are being effected. In Christchurch, although there is only one Departmental car provided, a sufficient number of other cars can be made available to officers of the police at short notice to enable them to meet any urgent call for fast transport. I may add that much,of the newspaper comment on this subject is uninformed and inaccurate, owing no doubt to lack- of knowledge of police requirements and resources."
