TO THE APPLE TREE
1 (Original by Adeline M. Waller, Halsey Road, Manurewa ; age 17 years 2 months.) Until you bloomed, dear tree, I thought the spring Would never come again ; but now I see Your shy buds have burst and revealed in sweet 1 And beauteous flower, a message dear to me. ; Until you bloomed, dear tree, my heart was sad, My restless spirit would not still, but now I have found joy and satisfying peace In every satin leaf and budding bough. My eyes are ever wandering in joy, To where you stand with chaliced blooms aglow In pearly mists of dew, or drowsy noon When to the golden bee your gifts bestow.. Ami in the quiet eventide when kissed By sweet October ruin, and from your arms A flight of silver song floats to the sky You are a perfect symbol of the psalms. i And so in fantasy 1 sing this song To you who are so rapturously gay, My heart shall carry springtime all the year, As on that day you swept my doubts away.
