TEMPORARY MEN.
RAILWAY DISMISSALS. OTAHUHU WORKSHOPS. CUSTOMARY PROCEDURE. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this clay. The report that a number of men were to be dismissed from the Otahuhu railway workshops was confirmed by the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, last night in a letter sent by him to Mr. W. J. Jordan (Labour, Manukau).
"Owing to the approaching completion of work now in hand in the various workshops, and to the reduced volume of ordinary work that will require to be dealt with in the immediate future," the Prime Minister wrote, "an adjustment of the number of staff has become necessary, and consequently the employment of a number of temporary employees will require to be terminated. This is the customary procedure in connection with the ebb and flow of work in the workshops. The men will again be given employment immediately work is available for them." A total of 31 ■ men were dismissed from various shops at Otahuhu this morning.
