A RAFFIA JARDINIERE.
1. How often have we seen bottles used for vases. They certainly do not add to the beauty of the flowers, lint this can be overcome by making a raffia jardiniere for the "vase" to stand in. . ' 2. The materials required are a nat piece of board large enough for circle Gin in diameter; six or twelve pieces of wire, as used for making wire baskets—each 20in to 22in long, and coloured raffia. Now make this a piece of community work for the classrooms. Some boya can bring and prepare the wood, otner boys the wire, and the girle the raflia. 3. On the board draw the circle with a 3in radius, • and mark t li o radius round the circle. This gives six equal parts. Join these points by straight lines, thus making a hexagon. With your saw cut it out, then bore £in hole (or smaller if you use only single wire) near the corners. (See Fig. 1.)
4. The boye syorking wit4i the wire would take two pieces and wind them together. This looks nicer than the eingle wire. Bend the wire over, putting the end through the holes. With the aid of pliers or pincers, bend the ends over to prevent them coming oiif of the holes., (See Fig. 2.) Repeat for the other five sides.
5. Now the girls set to work. Cover all the wire with raffia, binding the uprights in each hole firmly together to strengthen it. Then start from the bottom and wind the raffia round the outeide of the framework:, taking care to so round each upright to prevent the raffia from slipping. See clotted line in diagram 2. Wind as high as A. Blended colours add to its appearance.
