STOCKING THE STORE CUPBOARD.
In these days when so many people have ears, and it is quite a commonplace for people to travel long distances in a day, we never know when we may be entertaining unexpected guests. As very often there may not bo enough in the larder to furnish meals for visitors, it is well to have at hand plenty of stores For contriving emergency meals. By means of eggs, vegetables and fruit,
and tinned and bottled' goods, very attractive meals can be arranged in a very short time, and the existing rations for a meal for two or three people can be eked out to supply sufficient for twice that number. Stock a good supply of Hour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, and cream of tartar, as should the bread supply run short, soda or baking powder bread or rolls are quickly made. A tin of biscuits, plain and fancy, is handy, and if your cupboard contains sonic of the following you will not be troubled when unexpected visitors arrive: Tomato sauce, anchovies and anchovy sauce, pickles, mayonnaise, sardines, tinned salmon and lobster, bottled or tinned fruit, green peas, packet jellies, gelatine, custard powder, ulace cherries, almonds, ground almonds, walnuts, and a few tins of unsweetened condensed milk. Grate sonic cheese and keep it in a bottle, and make a good supply of white and browned bread crumbs, and store them in tins with tight-fitting lids.
