CHOOSING AN INVESTMENT.
RESULTS OF COMPETITION. MIXING STOCK SELECTED, The results of a competition promoted by Mr. C. J. Green, sharebroknr, in order to encourage the public to more closely .study the share and debenture market, have now become available. The cost price of the investment was taken as at April 30 last, and the selling price as at October 31 last; but profit was not the solo test, the judges taking into consideration the reasons advanced by the entrant for his choice. Entries were received from all over the Dominion, and showed that the entrants took a keen interest in the competition, and had a sound knowledge of the investment market. The prizes were awarded as follows:— First (£2s).—To Mr. Ronald B, Kemp, of Te Aroha. Stock chosen: Big River Uold Mines, which showed a riso in market value of 160 per cent since April 30 last.
Second (£l2 10/ I.—To Mr. J. T. Shrive, of Putnruru. Stock chosen: TaupoTotara Timber Co. ford, shares). Tliosc shares rose in value 90 per cent. Third (£s).—To Mrs. M. S. Cook, of -Mount Albert. Stock chosen: Fanners' Trading Co. (ord. shares). These rose in value 58 per cent.
Several other competitors selected Farmers' Trading Company shares, but the reasons .submitted by the prize winner were, in the opinion of the committee, the best. A number of entrants made excellent choices in selecting stocks such. as Colonial Sugar Company and Woolworths' ordinary, but were disqualified, as the competition was limited to companies registered in New Zealand. The winning entries will be published in full in our advertising columns.
