SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A delightful kitchen evening was given at the Y.W.C.A. by Mrs. Hynes and Miss Verla Hynes, the guests of honour being Miss Jessie Parr and Mr. Mahood, who were the recipients of many useful gifts. Dancing and games were indulged in, and a duet rendered by Miss Verla Hynes and Miss Ena Beadle was much enjoyed. Supper was later served. -
The final meeting of the year of the Remuera-Newmarket branch of the Auckland Methodist Women's Missionary Auxiliary was held on Thursday. Mrs. J. H. Carr opened the meeting with helpful thoughts, after which Mist> Pearce gave an account of the recent M.W.M.U. conference held in Wellington. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the speaker.
A successful garden party was held in the Papakura Presbyterian Church grounds this week, when over £22 was taken. The stallholders were: Mcsdames Lea, Lock, T. McLennan and Bain (work); Mesdames J. R. and H. Wilson (produce); Mesdames Kidd and Francy, with Miss Young (cakes); Misses Platt, flarlick and Ennion sweets); Mcsdames Bratty, Abbiss and Alexander (afternoon tea); Mesdames Beggs and Cole, (ice cream); and Mrs. W. A. Pavitt, Miss C. Brown and Messrs. J. R. Wilson and D. Bcggs (sports). The winners of the latter were: Clock golf, Mr. P. Beggs; tennis, Misses P. McCall and C. Brown, with Mr. Bratty winning the potato throwing.
