WATER BOARD.
PARLIAMENTARY PROPOSAL. MOUNT ALBERT'S SUPPORT. The Parliamentary Committee's report on the Auckland Provincial Water Board Bill was described as being highly satisfactory from the viewpoint of Auckland suburban local bodies by Mr. R. Ferner, Mayor of Mount Albert, at a meeting of tiie Mount Albert Borough Council last evening. The recommendation of the Local Bills Committee was that legislation be introduced by the Government to create a metropolitan water board, preferably by enlarging the powers of tlig Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, said Mr. Ferner. The proposal that the Drainage Board should take over tin water business was not a new one, and had a great deal to commend it, as it furnished an answer to those who won inclined to contend that too many boards were being formed. There would have to be ' a radical change, however, in the constitution ol the Drainage Board, the membership oi which at present consisted of all of tin members of the City Council plus fivr other local body representatives. Ar rangements would have to be made fo representation ofl a population or other equitable basis.
