UNION CO. STEAMERS.
KOMATA AND KAIMANAWA.
LONG TOW CONTEMPLATED
It is understood that the Union Steam Ship Company steamers Komata and Kaimanawa have been sold to Eastern buyers, and that they will leave New Zealand when Chinese crews arrive about the middle of December.
The Komata is to tow the Kaimanawa on the voyage. The Komata is a steel steamer of 2113 tons, and was built on the Tyne for the Union Company in 1907. She has a length of 280 ft and a beam of 42ft.
She has been laid up at Wellington for some time. a
Tho Kaimanawa was built at Flensburg, Germany, in 1909, and was originally named John Heidmann. She is a vessel of 2410 tons, with a length of 320 ft and 40ft beam. On coming into the hands of the Union Company she was engaged in the intercolonial trade between Newcastle and New Zealand. She was then in the New Zealand coastal trade. Since the middle of 1931 she has been laid up in Auckland Harbour.
