DRAFT OF LEGISLATION.

MAXIMUM OF £200 OR TWO YEARS.

(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.)

WELLINGTON, Monday.

Although draft legislation providing for heavier penalties for the conversion of motor cars has not yet been approved by Cabinet, it is the intention of the Minister of Justice. Mr. J. G. Cobbe, to make an endeavour to have it passed this session. It is understood that the penalties suggested are £100, or one year's imprisonment if the case is dealt with summarily, and £200, or two years' imprisonment if the case is dealt with in the Supreme Court.
