> ■ PIAKO'S GOOD SEASON. The Piako Hockey Association's season was brought to a close with the presentation of trophies at a dance held at Morrlnsville on Saturday evening. The president of the association, Mr. A. G. Yardley, said that although the teams had not been numerically strong this season the competition had been very keen. The season of representative games, ill which the Piako men's team suffered defeat only twice, culminated in a remarkable victory over the Australian touring team, at Te Arotaa, by 2—o. Not only did I'iako defeat the Australians, but they also had the unique distinction of oelng the only team in .New Zealand to keep their goal intact against the visitors. Mr. Yardley hoped that the line record for the season would give an impetus to the game, and he urged the young people present to take up hockey next season as some of the association's most experienced players would not be playing much longer.
