"ACCIDENTAL."
MAN'S FALL FROM TRAM. COMMENTS BY CORONER. A verdict that Charles I*arry Shepherd, a retired, farmer, aged 72, of 32, Rossmay Terrace, Sandringham, died from head injuries .following an accidental fall from a tramcar in Queen Street, on the evening of September 11, was returned by the coroner, Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., at the inquest yesterday afternoon. Evidence was given that deceased was seated in a tram with his daughter, Mrs. Edith Meale. He suddenly rose and went to the back platform. Mrs. Meale thought he had gone to get some air. He fell off. Witness ran on to the platform, and also fell off. Both were taken to the Auckland Hospital.
"It was purely an accidental fall," said the coroner. "It would be better if framed advertisements 'lifi not appear over the windows at the ent! of tramcars, although in this case their presence did not matter. If they are likely to restrict the view of the conductor I think they should be removed."
