SURF LIFE-SAVING.
DEMONSTRATION AT BATHS. Mr. H. H. Lock, chairman of the executive of the Royal Life-Saving Society, who arrived from London, via Sydney, yesterday, gave an address at the Tepid Baths last night. This was supplemented by demonstrations by the Milford ladies' and Waitemata teams, and was followed with keen interest by enthusiasts. The president of the Auckland Head Centre of the societ.v, Mr. A. Macgregor, extended a welcome to Mr. Lock, and mentioned how effective the society's methods had proved in lessening drowning fatalities. A demonstration of land drill was then given by the Milford Girls' Surf Club's team. It was followed by the Waitemata Swimming Club's team, which, divided into pairs, showed how the methods of rescue and release were performed in the water. In each case the movements were interspersed with explanatory remarks by Mr. Lock, who pointed out the purpose of the various methods. At the conclusion of the demonstration, Mr. Lock appealed for greater support of the society. Yesterday, accompanied by officers of the Auckland Head Centre of the society, Mr. Lock visited several secondary schools where life-saving drill is a recognised activity.
