CHAMPIOW OF CHAMPIONS.
MATCH FOR SATURDAY. The Auckland Rugby League Board of Control met last evening, Mr. Ivan Culpan presiding in the absencc of Mr. G. Grey Campbell, whose indisposition was referred to with regret. It was reported that all arrangements were complete for the clampion of champions fixture on Saturday for the Stormont Memorial Shield between Richmond Rovers and Newton Rangers. Permission was granted Marist Club to stage a testimonial match to the international player H. Brisbane on October 27. Two letters weer received, one from Dr. F. J. Gwynne, and another from Newton Bangers Club relative to the nearness of the ground terrace fence from the playing area and the danger to players tackled, as illustrated in recent matches, and it was decided to advise that the matter of shifting the fence further back was being considered by the board. . . Reports were received in connection with the visit of Ponsonby and Devonport Club seniors to Huntly and Hikurangi respectively. It was mentioned that , the game in North Auckland was not altogether a satisfactory exhibition. The primary schools' committee advised that Messrs. Rout and Stanley would manage the Auckland team to Northland j to-morrow.
The Hawke's Bay Rugby League (Mr. P. J. Williamson, secretary) advised tnat the visit of the Mount Albert senior team to the district had given a considerable impetus to the code in the Bay, and resulted in the spontaneous presentation ot trophies, which would be of value in the future. Several other confirmatory letters were received.
Mr. Stan Rickards reported on the Waitanci Shield match at Huntly on October 6. when Tamaki drew with Waikato, to retain the trophy. A Maori advisory board had been formed, as directed by the authorities, whose aid in promulgating the interprovincial Maori competition was warmly endorsed. The report was appreciatively received, and a member reported that experience had shown that the teams involved should be strictly limited to Maori players. The Auckland Women's Cricket Association, in view of the visit of an English women's cricket eleven in February, inquired as to the prospect of the use or the rental of pitches at Carlaw Park for the season. Mr. Culpan advised that negotiations in this matter were to be the subject of a conference. Mr. Probert stated that the Auckland City Boys' Band greatly appreciated the use of Carlaw Park for practice, and added that the contest to take place on November 10 and II at the pack was being looked forward to, as bands from the North and South, as far as Ngaruawahia, would be competing.
