There was a good yarding of cattle at the Westfield sales to-day. Ox beef was plentiful and bidding was keen. Last week beef sold at 30/ per 1001b, but to-day it dropped to 20/. Beef.—We penned fat cattle to the number of 354 head, as against 314 head at last week's market, comprising 21a steers and 139 cows and heifers. Quality generally was first-class, and the demand and values were about on a par with last week's. Extra choice ox sold to £1 !)/ per 1001b; choice and prime, £1 6/ to £1 9/; secondary and plain, £13/ to £15/; prime young cow and heifer beef, £1 4) to £1 7/; secondary, 16/ to £1 3/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £11 to £11 10/: heavv, £9 15/ to £10 17/6; lighter, £8 10/ to £9 12/6; light, £7 to £8 7/6; small and unfinished, £3 to £6 17/6. Beef.—We yarded 207 head of beef, comprising 54 steers and 153 cows and heifers, against 254 head last week. Tin quality was first-class, and, although the demand was steady, values generally were slightly easier. Extra choice ox sold to 29/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 26/ to 28/; secondary and plain, 23/ to 25/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 24/ to 27/; secondary, 17/ to 23/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £11 to £11 12/6; heavy, £9 17/6 to £10 17/6; lighter, £8 15/ to £9 15/; light, £7 10/ to £S 12/6; small and unfinished, £6 17/6 to £7 7/6. N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. Beef.—Our yarding of beef was about an average one, being smaller than last week's, and, although in places last week's values were obtained, our quotations are easier by about 1/ per lOOl'o.
