Sister Mary Nicolay, the "Grand Old Lady of the Nursing Profession," lias just celebrated her SJinl birthday in Perth, West Australia. She is believed to be the only surviving nursing sister who received her training under Florcneo Nightingale. Sister Mary is now actively interested in the progress of nursing, and gives much time to other benevolent work. When only 20 she enrolled under Miss Nightingale, and was the youngest of the last 12 trained by the Lady of the Lamp. Sister Mary went through the Boer War, and 50 years ago sailed from Africa to Perth to nurse leprosy patients.
