GALATEA AND ONEPU.
INSPECTION BY MINISTERS.
DEVELOPMENT SATISFACTORY.
{By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Monday. The Minister of Lands, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, and the Minister of Education, the Hon. R. Masters, returned to Kotorua this afternoon after inspecting the Galatea and Onepu blocks. Mr. Ransom expressed himself as we.l satisfied with what he saw of conditions at Galatea. The pastures were well up to expectations and stock had come through the winter well. The Minister saidi however, that he saw no reason for altering his- original plan of development. As areas became available by cultivation they would be taken up on a share-milking basis until the Government was satisfied that the land could be satisfactorily offered for selection on a permanent basis. From Galatea the Ministers went to the Onepu block, which they found in excellent condition. On this block there are 12 holdings under the small farm scheme and 13 ordinary Crown sections. One holding of 06 acres is carrying 4o cows. Development is also proceeding on the Murupara block and also on the Tarawera block of 500 to 000 acres. Mr. Masters considered the question of the provision of a school at Galatea, where there will be about 20 pupils, but nothing definite was decided upon. It is considered probable, however, that the Lands Department will build a school and that the Education Department will equip it. Both Ministers left for Wellington by the afternoon train.
