TAXING OF PETROL.

BEST FOR MOTOR TRANSPORT

HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES OPPOSED

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Joint submissions were presented to the Transport Co-ordination Board today on behalf of the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance and White Star services, representing commercial operators of both passenger and goods vehicles. The main relief sought was the abolition of heavy traffic fees. It was maintained that the petrol tax was the only form of taxation of motor transport which fairly measured highway usage. It was submitted that existing methods of taxation had outlived their usefulness and should be replaced by a simplified system which was calculated to ensure the future welfare of the whole Dominion.
