Young Woman Killed and Baby Injured.
EXPLOSION OF TIME BOMB
BRISBANE, October 8. A mysterious bomb explosion occurred near Ingham about 2 a.m. to-day. An Italian woman, Ina Bacchicla, aged 23, was killed and her baby son .was blown into the roof and terribly injured. The woman's husband, a cane-cutter, who is employed about six miles away, had left home on Sunday morning for work. The police aro of the opinion that somebody placed a time bomb under the hut with the intention of killing either Mrs. Bacchiela or her husband. BYRD EXPLORATIONS. ACTIVITY IN THE ANTARCTIC. NEW YORK, October 8. The following message has been received from Rear-Admiral Byrd's base in the Antarctic, Little America:— The blizzard which assailed this community for three days is now lifting, after depressing the barometer to the lowest level ever registered in this part of the Antarctic. The second tractor party is preparing for the journey to Admiral Byrd's outpost. The tractor will carry 30001b of dog pemmican which will be stored for use. Two sledging parties arc scheduled to depart soon to explore the Queen Maude rango and the South Polar plateau. ARRIVAL IN AUSTRALIA. LORD AND LADY BLEDISLOE. SYDNEY, October 8. The Governor-General of New Zealand, Lord Blcdisloe, and Lady Bledisloe, arrived by the Monowai from Wellington to-day. They left for Melbourne by train to-night.
