MISSIONARY SUNDAY.
The first of a series of special services during the present month was held at the Onehunga Presbyterian Church on Sunday, the day being observed as a missionary Sunday. Appropriate sermons were preached by the minister, the Rev. L. McMaster, to large congregations. At 10 a.m. he addressed the men's society of the church on "The Oxford Group Movement," bringing before the members many facts relating to that missionary enterprise and the methods adopted in its furtherance in older countries, of which they were not aware. He stated that the Christchurch Presbytery, of which he had been a member, had devoted several special meetings to study of the movement. The society decided to send to the president, Mr. R. A. Palla, who is at present in the South, congratulations on his investiture with the Polar Medal by the Governor-General. In the afternoon Mr. McMaster addressed the children .of the Sunday school at the Scott Presbyterian Hall, One Tree Hilh and a congregation assembled to celebrate the ninth anniversary of the foundation of the school in the humble surroundings of a nearby garage. The celebration was continued in the evening, when an address was given by Mr. G. Doherty, a Bible class preacher from Point Chevalier. The seventy-fourth anniversary of the constitution of the mother Church as a fully-sanctioned charge will be celebrated next Sunday.
