DEATH OF BABY.
"LINDY'S" EVIDENCE.
Famous Airman Attends Court
In Disguise.
ACCUSED FOR TRIAL. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 1.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 27. After hearing witnesses, including Colonel Charles Lindbergh, a grand jury indicted Bruno Hauptmann, the fugitive German carpenter, on the charge of extortion of ransom money. Hauptmann pleaded not guilty. He was held on bail of. 100,000 dollars. It is indicated that Hauptmann will face trial on the extortion charge in New York before being tried for kidnapping and murder in New Jersey. A dramatic touch was given to-day's proceedings when it was revealed that Colonel Lindbergh, in disguise, was in the room, and, with others, he spent 20 minutes scrutinising the prisoner, unknown to the latter. The police continue to pile up damaging evidence against Hauptinann. They have found an additional 840 dollars of the ransom money and a loaded revolver hidden in his garage. A chisel found on Colonel Lindbergh's estate, probably used by the kidnappers of the baby to prise open the window, has been identified as the simc make of tools in Hauptmann's carpenter's kit.
