GOLF.

I LADIES' TOURNEY. CHAMPIONSHIP FOURSOMES. MRS. DEIGHTON'S SOUND PUTTING. The championship foursomes played at Titirangi oil Saturday at the New Zealand ladies' golf tournament drew a big gallery, which concentrated on the two leading New Zealand players, Miss O. Kay and Miss B. Gaisford, who were paired with Miss C. Lascelles and Miss M. MacLeod, tlic Australian pair. None of the four players excelled themselves, and though the New Zealand pair finished in SO, a round which included a 7, this was second only to the round of Miss L. Bailey, New South Wales, who was partnered with Mrs. Deigliton, one of the soundest of the Titirangi players, whose round was 7S. The sound putting of Mrs. Deigliton was the convincing feature of the winners, but Miss Bailey played her part well, and her accurate approaching and chipping gave her partner the opportunities on the green of which she fully availed herself. The winners got a

nice start with a 3 and though a 0 at the next was a set-back, they lost only one other stroke to bogey on the outward run, a 5 at the third. A birdie 4 at the sixth retrieved this, and they were out in 38, one over bogey. Coming home they slipped a stroke at Titirangi, the twelfth hole, but picked it up at The Wrecker with a 4. They lost a stroke at the short fourteenth and also the sixteenth, to finish in 40.

In the match which the gallery followed an early thrill was provided when Miss Kay struck the pin witli her approach, to leave her partner a putt for three, which Miss Gaisford holed. The New Zealand pair slipped strokes at the next two holes, and a disastrous 7 followed at the fifth. The New Zealanders were out in 39, two over the scratch score. The New Zealand pair started homo with an excellent 4, and then had another bad hole, a 5 at Redan, after Miss Gaisford's tee shot was bunkered. The final thrill of their round was when Miss Gaisford holed a putt from the edge of the green on the eighteenth.

The Australian pair went very evenly for six holes, and it was not until the short seventh hole that they struck trouble. Here the tee shot of Miss MacLeod was trapped in the sand, and the hole a 3 bogey, cost them C. Coming home they started with a 6, and another followed at th© twelfth, to finish in 43, and make their tally 84. The best cards in the championship were: Mrs. Deighton and Miss Bailey, 78, Miss Kay and Miss Gaisford 80, Miss V. Fleming and Miss P. Helean 81, Mrs. T. Lean and Miss L. Williamson 83, Miss E. Hanson and Miss Briton-Smith 83, Miss Rutherford and Miss Stevenson 84, Miss Robinson and Miss Hammond 85, Miss E. Culling and Mrs. Ferguson 85.
