TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB.
MEETING AT ELLERSLIE. AN INCREASE IN STAKES. The committee of the Takapuna Jockey Club has arranged their programme for their forthcoming spring meeting, to be held at Ellerslie on Saturday and Monday, November 24 and 26. The prizemoney totals £3725, compared with £2560 for the corresponding meeting last year, an increase of £1165. The principal alteration is the substitution of two hurdle events for the high-weight handicaps, and the inclusion of a steeplechase each day in place of two other events. . On the first day the Melrose Handicap has had the stake increased from £100 •to £150, but it remains at five furlongs. •Howerer, instead of being for maidens, it is now for hacks that have not won an advertised flat race at time of starting of th,e value of £50 to. the winner. The Tiri •High-weight '; now becomes the Tiri Hurdles, of. £200, one mile and three- ' quarters, while the Cambria Handicap, for tw6 : yeaj-olds, five furlongs, has had the stake increased from £115 to £225. The Alison Cup of £400 (an increase of £100) will be run over a mile and a quarter, inetead of a mile, three furlongs and 40 yards. The Cheltenham Handicap of £250 (against £165 last year) atill remains at six furlongs. The Spring Steeplechase of £250 will' be run over about three miles, while the Ponui Hack Handicap has been raised from £110 to £175, and the distance reduced from nine furlongs to a mile. On the second day, the Vauxhall Handicap is worth £150, compared with £100. It remains at six furlongs, but is for horses that have not won an advertised flat race at the time of entry of the value of £100 to the winner. The Kawau High-weight now becomes, the Kawau Hurdles of £225, one mil£ and threequarters. The Ralcino Handicap has had the stake increased from £115 to £200. This is a race for two-year-olds, over five furlongs. The St. Andrew's Handicap of £300 (an increase of £50) will be run over a mile. Formerly it was nine furlongs. The Kgataringa Steeplechase of £225, about two miles and a, half, takes the place of the Ngataringa Handicap. The Cautley Handicap, six furlongs, will be worth £200, against £125 last season, while the Stanley Hack Handicap of £175. seven furlongs, was worth only £100 last season. In addition there is the Takamma Plate (first day) and the Pupuke Plate (second day), for which entries have! already closed. - j
