FARM AS COMPENSATION. « CAPETOWN, September 10. A remarkable sentence was passed at the criminal sessions on Frank Percy Perkins, an elderly man, formerly a policeman and farmer. He was found guilty by a jury of culpable homicide in shooting a farmer named Van Staden, in the Vryheicl district of Natal. Perkins was sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment,'the last 12 months to be suspended conditional upon his good behaviour, and providing that, within three months, he transfers his farm to Van Stfiden's widow and children, by way of compensation. Ihe farm is of 431 acres and is worth about £2 10/ an acre.
