"GLOUCESTER PARK."

NAME FOR GEDDES BASIN. OPENING BY DUKE DESIRED. The question of the official opening of the Geddes Basin at Onehunga was before the Borough Council last week, when the town clerk was authorised to ask the Governor-General to arrange for H.K.11. the Duke of Gloucester to open the reserve and to name it "Gloucester Park"; or, failing this, that the Governor-General himself be asked to officiate, on a suitable date during the Duke's visit to New Zealand. Last night the reply was read by the town clerk, stating that both suggestions would receive the sympathetic consideration of his Excellency and his Ministers when the final draft of the programme of engagements was being considered for submission to His Royal Highness. However, in view of the many applications received for His Koyal Highness' presence at various functions in Auckland during his brief visit, no promise, could be given.
