AIR BASE WORK.
CARPENTERS' RESOLUTION. The dispute concerning conditions under which relief workers are offered employment at the Hobsonville Air Base was considered at a meeting of the national executive of the Carpenters' Union held on Monday, and the following resolution was passed:— "This national executive of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners sympathise with the workers in their dispute over conditions on the Hobsonville Air Base works, and supports their demand for that standard of life to which every New Zealand citizen is entitled. The executive asks all organised labour to co-operate against the attempt to impose conditions similar to those which prevailed under the feudal system. The work is admitted to be a national undertaking; it is for the purposes of defence, for the protection of property, and therefore property should be burdened with the responsibility of providing a decent standard of lifo for those employed on such work."
