Americans visited Glasgow recently to buy de-luxe herrings for New York consumers. These super-herrings, caught in the Hebrides and cured at Castlebay, fetch peak prices which only America is prepared to pay. They are favoured by Jewish and other foreign epicures in New York, for whose benefit weekly shipments are sent during the season.
