UNIQUE ACHIEVEMENT.

Something unique in the history of the Wellington Competitions Society's festivals was achieved by Miss Doreen Hunt, of Wairoa, when *he won the ladies' vocal scholarship and also tied for the ladies' vocal championship. Never before has a lady vocalist won both the scholarship and the championship at Wellington at the same festival, and Miss Hunt's achievement in winning one and tieing for the other is the nearest approach to this feat. She tied in the championship with Miss Sawyer, last year's scholarship winner, who secured a first and four seconds in the championship classes, in which Miss Hunt obtained three firsts, one second and a highly commended. In all classes, Miss Hunt's record was four firsts, two seconds and four highly commendeds, and she won these honours after an attack of laryngitis, which cleared up finally only on the day the competitions commenced.
