MR. G. R. ATTWOOD.
MR. WILLIAM J. ROWE.
MRS. MARGARET TOWNSHEND. An old resident of Ramarauia, Mrs. Margaret Townshend, died at Papakura on August-'2B. She was born in Belfast 84 vears ago and arrived at Auckland with her husband, the late Mr. Alexander Townshend, in the chip Aboukir in IS7I. They, went to Ramaraiua a few months after arrival, and farniclthere for 45 years. For the last 18 years Mrs. Tliownshend lived at Papakura. Twelve children are left. There are also 34 grandchildren and 30 greatgrandchildren.
The death took place suddenly at Hamilton on August 29, of Mr. George Renoklo Attwood, who was born in Birmingham (54 years ago, and' arrived at Chriistelmrch with his parents, ivhen a bov of six. In 1907 Mr. Attwood went* to Hamilton,f where he became well known among members of the building trades. He was also a keen gardener and for many years ivas a frequent exhibitor at local horticultural shows. Mr. Attavood is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters, Mr. K. Attwocd, Mr. E. Attwood and Mr. X. Attwood and Mrs. R. Tindall and Mis,s B. Attwood, all of whom reside in Hamilton.
A well-known bandmaster, Mr. William John Rowe, died at the home of his daughter, in Ponsonby, on August 29, in his sixty-ninth year. He arrived in Auckland with his parents about .">S years ago from Penzance, Cornwall, when aged 10. The family went to Thames, where later,. Mr. W. J. Rowe became very well known at the various mining camps on the Thames goldfields in the old days. He also had charge of the Salvation Army Band, and the Hauraki Brass Band for some years. On leaving the Thames he came to Auckland to take over the Oneliunga Municipal Brass Band, of which he had charge for some twenty years. Mr. Rowe was also an active member of the old Thames Navals, and held the shooting championship belt for years. He took an active part in the Manukau Cruising Club, his launch Verdi being well known on "the Manukau Harbour. His wife, who predeceased him somemouths ago, was also well known-and respected on the Thames. Mr. Rowe had recently resigned from the firm of Alfred Buckland and Sons, where he has been employed for the past 26 years. He is survived by his two daughters, six sons, 17 grandchildren, a brother and four sisters. Mr. Rowe had the distinction of having played instruments from double bass to soprano in a fortnight when a member of the Waihi Federal Band.
